About Us
The Mentor me Foundation was created with a simple vision – to provide orphan’s in the Asia-Pacific region with equal opportunities. In the long-run the foundation aims to act as a platform for social entrepreneurs in the Asia-Pacific region to adopt the “Mentor me Program” into their community.
The “Mentor me Program” is primarily focused on the academic and professional development of orphans. Through a mentoring system, designed specifically to enhance educational prospects and career opportunities, each child is assigned a mentor upon entering high school. The mentors are high performing university students chosen from the University of the South Pacific or Fiji National University. The formal mentor relationship lasts until the child finishes high school.
The secondary aim of the organisation is to seek funding to allow the children to pursue tertiary education in the form of tertiary and corporate scholarships. The organisation will also assist the child in securing internships and full-time employment at the conclusion of their tertiary education.
The journey to establishing Mentor me Fiji started in 2012, and took two years of patience, perseverance and persistence to get off the ground. The program commenced in January 2014 and has seen great success in the academic development of mentees in Fiji’s orphanages.
The program aims to:
- Establish a network of support for the children
- Provide the children with an avenue for enquiries on academic and professional development
- Develop a link between the child and a future professional in their field of interest
- Provide the child with companionship and a role model
- Improve a mentors leadership and communication skills
- Develop a pool of compassionate future professionals
- Allow the mentors to realize the importance of academic and professional development
- Create a sense of community amongst the mentors and mentees
